Can you believe it is already the final day of 2009? Wow! The realization that life is so short motivates me to focus on the things that are really important, such as memorizing and meditating on God’s Word.
One year ago today our first memorization challenge began with II Timothy 2 and sixty-one people successfully completed the goal. Are you ready to take on a new challenge to start a new year? Once again, The Challenge is to memorize the following chapter of the Bible, one verse a day for 25 days, beginning January 1st!
The Passage
Colossians 3. While under house arrest in Rome, Paul received a visit from Epaphras, the leader of the church in Colosse. He brought good news that the Christians at Colosse were continuing in the faith and bearing fruit. However, he also brought bad news–a dangerous heresy had crept into the church.
In the first two chapters of Colossians, Paul completely overwhelms this heresy as he powerfully articulates the fullness of Christ and the completeness that we experience in Him. Then, in Chapter 3, he lays out practical instructions for living a life that pleases God. Every verse rings with truth and provides fertile
ground for rich study.
Beginning tomorrow, we will be highlighting one verse each day here at livingthejourney.com with some thoughts from one of the Journey staff. Please join in the discussion and share what insights and application that the Lord reveals to you!
The Requirement
All Journey alumni who successfully memorize Colossians 3 and are able to quote the entire passage by memory before midnight, January 25, 2010 should have their father or mother call the Journey to the Heart office on January 26th or 27th. This will verify successful completion of The Challenge. The number is 630-323-9800 ext. 522.
The Rewards
David of old overflowed with amazement at the rewards of meditation on Scripture: “O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day. Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts” (Psalm 119:97-100).
Everyone who completes The Challenge will receive an “Inspiration of Creation” 2010 calendar. The front cover shot is a picture from the Northwoods, with the Conference Center shrouded in morning fog.
In addition to this, there are other rewards that will remain a surprise until we announce them at the end of The Challenge.
The names of all those who have successfully met The Challenge will be published here at livingthejourney.com on January 31.
Will you be on the list?

This is great! I’ve been needing to review Colossians 3. The neat thing about slowing down and taking just one verse a day is that the chapter sticks with you longer. 2 Timothy 2 still goes through my head at night. Thank you for all your work and encouragement!
