Wisdom and understanding are greatly needed in the day in which we live. And a wise person will heed the counsel and truths shared by authorities and elders. I know that in my own life, following the counsel of my Dad and Mom has always proved to be best!
Thanks for the insights Sharon...

Thank you for your insights, Sharon! What a great reminder this verse was to me to take the time to "consider" what God is saying in His Word! I tend to forget to do this when things get busy.:) This "Challenge" has really helped me "consider" 2 Tim. 2 this past week. The Lord has revealed so many rich insights that I have not seen before!
I love Paul's blessing to Timothy at the end of 2 Tim. 2:7! Back in the Old Testament, Solomon realized that understanding was important, and he asked God for it (1 Kings 3:9). Paul even blessed the Colossian believers with understanding (interesting it's the same Greek word!) What a great thought to know that He who gave us the Word also gives us understanding of it! His Word is inexhaustable - full of wisdom! May the Lord bless us each with His understanding as we diligently meditate on His Word!

I, too, found that consider means "to exercise the mind." It is interesting that Paul would instruct Timothy to stop and consider, think about, and ponder the words of the Lord (given through Paul). This tells me that there is great importance in meditating on God's Word, because it is then that He can give me "understanding in all (any, every, the whole) things"!
Sharon, thank you for sharing! The fact that no man of himself has understanding in spiritual things was a very observant insight!

I meant to share this with the second verse, 2 Tim. 2:2. My mom shared an insight about making disciples and disciple-makers. This single verse speaks of four generations of disciples: 2Ti 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me(one) among many witnesses,(two) the same commit thou to faithful men,(three) who shall be able to teach others (four)also. It shows you how many more people could come to know Christ and teach other about Him, if we teach them faithfully to tell others.

Very good thoughts! It stood out to me as well how the Lord is the one who gives understanding as we consider ("exercise the mind," as Tia said, or "meditate on" as Elianna has been doing) God's Word.

I love Paul's prayer in Colossians 1 where he said, I "do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding." (It's the same Greek word!)

What a beautiful example of how God blesses us when we cooperate with Him! The word "consider" means to exercise the mind. When I do my part to exercise my mind in God's Word day and night, it sharpens my sensitivity to His voice. Not only does He bring special verses to mind when I need them most, He gives me a deeper understanding of them, and of His love for me!
