Excitement has been growing since the Journey announcement last week about The Challenge to memorize a specific chapter of the Bible beginning January 1, 2009—one verse a day for 26 days!
The Passage
II Timothy 2. This is Paul’s final letter to Timothy. It was written during Nero’s persecution of the church. Paul was in prison, he had just experienced a mass desertion by his supporters from Asia, and it is obvious he was not expecting to live much longer. In the second chapter, Paul pours out his heart to his dearly beloved son in the faith and delivers a challenging series of practical exhortations.
Every day we will be highlighting a new verse from II Timothy 2 on LivingTheJourney.com with an inspirational word from a member of the Journey team. As you check back each day, we encourage you to comment on what the Lord has taught you through your meditation on the verse.
The Requirement
All Journey alumni who successfully memorize II Timothy 2 and are able to quote the entire passage by memory before midnight, January 26, 2009 should have their father or mother call the Journey to the Heart office on January 27th or 28th. This will verify successful completion of The Challenge. The number is 630-323-9800 ext. 522.
The Rewards
God guarantees good success to those who meditate on His Word. (See Psalm 1; Joshua 1:8.) Paul made a similar promise to Timothy in his earlier letter, “Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all” (II Timothy 4:14).
Those who complete the requirements will also receive a $26 discount off of a 2009 Living the Journey Conference. Other rewards are a surprise and will be announced at the end of The Challenge.
The names of all those who have successfully met The Challenge will be published here at LivingTheJourney.com on January 31. Will you be on the list?

This morning as our family read a section of Psalm 119 together, I was impressed with David’s love for meditating on God’s Word. He writes, “Mine eyes prevent the night watches, that I might meditate in thy word” (Psalm 119:148). Wow! That’s dedication. May each one of us share that same commitment to God and His Word!

I find that memorizing Scripture just doesn’t come real easy for me. Unless I have someone keeping me accountable or motivating me onward, it is all to easy for this important discipline to slip through the cracks.
That’s why we have decided to launch The Challenge! 26 verses in 26 days. Beginning January 1, 2009, we will be encouraging everyone who has been on a Journey to memorize a specific chapter of the Bible—one verse a day for 26 days! The exact chapter that we will be memorizing (and further details) will be announced on New Years Eve. (One hint: The chapter will be 26 verses, obviously <g>.)
Those who successfully complete this challenge by the deadline (Midnight, January 26) will receive a $26 discount off the 2009 Living the Journey Conference! (and other rewards which will remain a surprise.) Most importantly, however, will be the eternal rewards that Scripture promises for meditating on the Word.
Stay tuned for further details!

Exciting news!
Plans are now underway for a much-anticipated Journey reunion in the beautiful Northwoods of Michigan during the summer of 2009! This promises to be a refreshing opportunity to once again come apart and spend quality time alone with the Lord, receive practical training, and come away equipped with powerful tools and a renewed vision for soulwinning and discipleship.
Right now we are tentatively planning the following dates:
- Ladies’ Living the Journey Conference: June 17-21, 2009
Update: August 20-23, 2009
- Men’s Living the Journey Conference: August 26-30, 2009
Update: August 27-30, 2009
Fathers are strongly encouraged to attend with their sons and mothers with their daughters. This will be a valuable opportunity to strengthen important relationships and maintain accountability.
As we invite speakers and plan the schedule, we would appreciate hearing from you. What areas do you need encouragement in? Do you have any thoughts or suggestions? Please leave a comment or send us an email.
Mark your calendars and check back for further updates!

“When my parents first approached me with the idea of going on a Journey to the Heart, I came up with a string of excuses not to go because I knew that I had many wrong heart attitudes. I didn’t want to be challenged to step out of my comfort zone and change them. However, God had a different plan in mind. . .
“God miraculously arranged circumstances so I would be able to attend. From the very first day, I realized that this would be no ordinary programme. God showed me that there were many idols which I had set up in me heart and that this was what was hindering me in my walk with God. I learned practical ways to free my heart from competing affections and to seek God with my whole heart. I am looking forward to applying what I’ve learned!”

“The hour of prayer was such a great and encouraging experience. It has taught me to seek the Lord and to love him with my whole heart. I wish I could relive my Journey to the Heart experience over and over again.”
~ Sherilee

“My initial love for God had grown cold. Though I did my daily devotions and prayer each day, I would promptly forget about God for the rest of the day. I believed that I was a good Christian, but after studying eighteen heart conditions on the Journey, I realized that I wasn’t. I was blocking Christ out of my life! Now I have accepted Christ into my life again and I can’t wait to shine like a light for Him!”

“The five days spent at Journey to the Heart gave me a strong desire to seek and love the Lord with all of my heart, soul, mind and strength, and to cleanse my life before Him. Praise God!”
